In 2008, First United Methodist Church will mark its 125th anniversary of Christian witness in this community and surrounding area. Following in the tradition of the 1983 centennial celebration, we are asking all friends and members to gather, compile, collate, coordinate, etc. historical data, photographs, publications, articles, directories, and any other things of redeeming value that may be utilized in upcoming celebrations.

If you or someone you know is interested in serving the church in a creative manner over the next few months, come to a short gathering following worship to put in your two (or ten..) cents worth.

Several ideas are being floated about what and when to do things, but we want all those who with ideas and suggestions to be a part of the conversation. WHO WE ARE

First United Methodist Church is an historic fellowship of believers located in downtown Alice, Texas between First and Second on Adams Street.  Established in 1883, the Methodist Church has been a powerful and enduring witness to the love and grace of Jesus Christ in this "hub city" of South Texas for 125 years.

Today, we continue in the faith traditions of those who have come before us as we seek to minister in faithful expression of bringing the good news of salvation to our sisters and brothers in this community and the surrounding area.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

As United Methodists we have an obligation to bear a faithful witness to the living reality of Jesus Christ, which is at the center of our personal lives and the core of the Christian Church.  To fulfill this obligation, we reflect critically on our biblical and theological inheritance, striving to faithfully express the witness we make in our own time.

John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement believed that the living reality of the Christian faith was revealed in Scripture, illuminated by tradition, made alive in personal experience, and confirmed by reason.

United Methodists profess the historic Christian faith in God as revealed in Jesus Christ for our salvation and ever at work in human history through the Holy Spirit.

Living in a covenant of grace under the Lordship of Christ, we participate in the first fruits of God's coming reign and pray in hope for its full realization on earth as in heaven.
